Netbook manufacturer Acer recently launched its low-price netbook- Aspire One D250 in Asia. The netbook was previously available in US and Europe. Thanks to fierce competition between computer giants such as Sony and HP, netbook prices are always dropping. Acer has made a pretty decent attempt of breaking $300 barrier with Aspire One D250 netbook PC. The netbook specifications are pretty decent and it is expected to attract casual users who use netbook primarily for surfing the internet.
Acer Aspire One D250 features a low-power 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor which is considered as a benchmark in netbook industry. The processor is extremely power efficient and hence has low performance. But, for a browsing-centric netbook, it is more than enough to handle native applications. 5400RPM 160GB hard drive is more than enough to store all your important internet-related files plus a few movies and songs. When coupled with 1GB RAM, impressive performance is promised with Aspire One D250. Good looking 10.1 inch screen surrounded by somewhat dull plastic zone gives us first impression that this netbook is not meant for traveling businessmen.
Acer has also launched a better-performing and Dual-OS version of the same notebook with Intel Atom N280 processor clocking at 1.66GHz. Onboard Intel Media 945GSE Express graphics chipset is good enough to provide smooth internet browsing experience and mid-level movie experience. D250 (Dual-OS version) supports Google Android and Windows XP operating systems. For lightening fast performance, consumers can go with Android OS which can boot up as quickly as in 18 seconds. There are specific Android-compatible applications that you’ll have to work with when using Google Android OS. It can shut down in three seconds, which is almost three times faster than average Windows XP running computer.
Windows XP can be booted when you need compatibility and as most computer applications designed now are compatible with Windows XP, it gives you a great platform to edit your files, manage office data, etc. Most netbook users are not yet familiar with Google Android interface. So, it could take a while for them to get adjusted to its UI and functions. Acer Aspire One D250 will have to face tough competition from other biggies like Dell, Asus and HP which also manufacture netbooks in same class.
