Acer has been playing their cards in the smart phone market lately. The big time laptop giants are now trying their skills on their latest NeoTouch S200 Smartphone. This is the second phone ever to launch in the market with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, the first one being the Toshiba’s TG01. It is one of the fastest CPU and a speedy phone is undeniably noticeable.
The S200 houses a very decent amount of memory, a 512 MB of ROM and 256MB RAM, however only 220MB of the ROM remains free and 100MB of the RAM can be utilized. The microSD port allows for higher storage capability which is placed under the battery cover. We would expect Acer to falter at some stage but going forward the S200 is a delight. The screen is a vibrant 3.8inch and it is highly responsive than any other smart phones in its range. A high resolution display of 480 x 800 pixels is furthermore ideal for viewing videos, pictures and even surfing the web.
The neoTouch S200 is sleek in its design; it covers off almost all the connectivity and input ports. For fast data access the S200 is equipped with HSDPA and it is a quad band as well. The new Bluetooth 2.1 EDR technology coupled with Wi-Fi B and G makes this smart phone unbelievably astounding. Bad news is that we would expect navigation software on a new age Smartphone but the S200 is only built with Google Maps which is quite capable of working with the GPS chip.
As the features, the NeoTouch S200 is among the first handsets to support the Windows phone operating system from Microsoft. The operating system saw a lot of changes in terms of its usability and file support. The internet explorer has been immensely improved but none that can compare with Google’s Android or even the iPhone OS. Two unfortunate things are the lack of multi touch and second the media playback. The Windows media application is fairly meager in performance and functionality. However the audio playback quality is fairly better.
A 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, rudimentary and a single LED flash prevents the S200 to be a disaster. The camera performance is reasonable and the 1350mAh power ensures long hours of video recording and other useful processes. On the other hand the speakerphone is of poor condition and the earphones provided are rather quiet even at the highest volume. Priced at around $550 the S200 focuses on performance over build quality. Overall it’s a fascinating and a very speedy Smartphone.
