Acer Travelmate 6293 reviews – all purpose laptop with 8 hours of battery life

The Acer Travelmate 6293 is an all purpose laptop which provides ricking performance and beats its competitors with its incredible battery life. If the Acer would have succeeded in reduce the weight of the laptop by 0.6 pounds, the Travelmate would have been able to qualify as an ultraportable laptop. None the less, the Acer has been able to keep the price of the laptop at $999 which is accessible for many business users.

Though the laptop is heavy and is made in all black, it will amaze you with its performance. The Travelmate uses a powerful 7200-mAh battery which gives you the running time of 8 hours which places the laptop far ahead of any other all purpose laptop. So, you don’t need to carry the adapter around as the battery will last a whole day of office work.

The Travelmate is not the quickest laptop but it provides pretty decent performance with its 2.26-GHz Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU and 2GB of RAM. The laptop provides decent performance to handle daily tasks. But the performance of the laptop is limited by shared video memory as the Travelmate does not have dedicated graphics card. So, the laptop will not be able to handle 3D gaming which is quite disappointing.

The Travelmate sports a 12.1-inch display which offers a native resolution of 1280-by-800 pixels. The display is pretty bright and crisp and has a glossy finish. But the glossy finish will not cause any discomfort while working. The laptop sports a well laid out keyboard which is good for comfortable typing. Just above the keyboard lies a row of quick launch buttons which has seven controls for launching various applications. These buttons are quite helpful and launch applications like system password management, backup utility, e-mail program and Web browser. The touchpad is located below the keyboard and is easy to use. A fingerprint reader is located between the mouse buttons.

The Travelmate weighs 4.6 pounds (5.4 pounds with battery). The laptop is quite heavy as compared to ultraportable laptops but lighter than all purpose laptops. The laptop lacks the FireWire port and houses an older PC Card slot rather than an ExpressCard slot. But it also offers good features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Webcam. It also offers storage space of 250GB on its hard drive. You also have the option to upgrade the hard drive and RAM and its also includes a gigabit Ethernet connection and a standard DVD recorder.
