Android 2.2 To Land On Xperia X10 in Q2 2011

By on December 23, 2010

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 created huge sensation in the market right after its launch with its unmatched user interface and mesmerizing features. It is again ready to take the users off their feet once more as the operating system will be updated to Android 2.1 OS.

It did receive an update to Android 1.2 this October and will be further enhanced to Android 2.2 in the near future – probably by Q2 2011.

The latest update of the Xperia X10 to Android 2.2 has been confirmed by the company itself. So, there is every reason that we can start waiting for the update. According to the official, the Android version 2.2 is still being worked upon and soon be made available to the users of Xperia X10.

However, this leaked information does not guarantee the coming of the Android version 2.2 to Xperia X10 as the official announcement is still to be made. No such update has been officially confirmed either by Sony Ericsson or Google. So, the dream bubble might burst any time.

What makes us believe the leaked information is that Sony Ericsson will launch a number of multi-touch capabilities in the device in the near future. So, an upgrade to Android 2.2 would make things easier for Sony Ericsson if they really want to introduce multi-touch capabilities in the much desired Xperia X10. However, no such info of introducing multi-touch capabilities has been officially announced by Sony Ericsson.

As far as the ‘near future’ term is concerned, we can very well foresee when the update will actually arrive. Sony Ericsson promised an upgrade of Android 1.6 in Xperia X10 to Android 2.1 in the very beginning of the year 2010 but it was actually materialized in Q4 2010.

So, if the rumors are to be believed, the upgrade to Android 2.2 could be expected towards the end of the year 2011. So, overly curious users should save the excitement to the later part of the coming year, may be the next festive season.

Also, upgrade to Android 2.1 from 1.6 has been made available only to a few users. For instance, US customers who bought the Xperia X10 from AT&T are still to receive the update to Android 2.1. Let’s keep our fingers crossed so that if at all Android 2.2 is made available to Xperia X10, all the users in every nook and corner of the world will receive the update at the same time.
