Priced at $949, the Asus G50VT-X5 is a laptop which gives you the feel of a gaming laptop, courtesy splashes of color, lights everywhere along with an extended keyboard, and a small secondary OLED display.
Measuring 14.8 inches wide by 10.4 inches deep by 1.6 inches high, the laptop weighs 7.4 pounds (the AC adapter adds another 1.2 pounds). The laptop not only looks like the gaming laptop but it is backed up by very good combination of components, which makes it a true gaming laptop. The ASUS is powered by 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 processor and 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM. The graphics are handled by 512MB Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS graphics card which is integrated on Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset. The laptop comes with pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (64-bit) opearating system and provides storage space of 320GB on its hard drive which spins at 7,200 rpm.
When it comes to looks, you can certainly tell at first glance that the ASUS G50VT-X5 is not a business notebook. The laptop is designed to provide glittery black-and-brown appearance. The lid of the laptop is provided with a lightning/flame accent along with beams of LED lights going up each side and across the middle. However, you can switch off the side beams but the middle beam can be shut off only if the system is asleep or turned off.
The laptop boasts of OLED which is located above the keyboard. The OLED display can give alert of e-mail or IMs, along with status of battery life, memory and CPU usage, or display a custom greeting. A row of touch touch-sensitive controls is located on the right of the display. The controls include buttons for shutting off the touch pad and its frame of LED lights, changing the performance settings which include office, entertainment, high performance, and setting up the OLED display and launching application for system overclocking.
The ASUS boasts of 15.6-inch wide-screen LCD which has native resolution of 1366×768 pixels, which is same as the 16:9 display of most 15-inch laptops. The wider 16:9 display is perfect for HDTV-style content; however the 1080p video will have to be scaled down.
The laptop features all the necessary ports and connectors which include VGA-out, HDMI out port, Stereo speakers with subwoofer, headphone/microphone jacks, 4 USB 2.0, SD card reader, eSATA, mini FireWire, ExpressCard/54, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and DVD burner.
