The ASUS K42F is the one of the first core i5 notebooks which offers great performance in terms of speed and video playbacks and the ask price may just be affordable. All other features can be discarded when it comes to performance. Asus K42F with core i5 processor comes under this category. The integrated Intel graphic new media accelerator HD inside, this 14 inch machine can handle Blu-ray videos and many games with high graphic requirements.

Design wise the matted finish picks up fingerprint smudges very easily. The 13.6 x 9.8 x 1.4 inch K42F has black finish attractive lid with wavy pinstripe pattern. This notebook weighs only 5 pounds but it is still heavier than many other similar sized notebooks. Working on this notebook is easier due to spacious base and roomy palm rest area. On the keyboard there are some keys having blue characters on them which can be used to launch programs when pressed in combination with the FN key.

It has a 14 inch display with 1366 x 768 resolution. The screen is little too shiny and kicks back reflections but it is not devastating. Both vertical and horizontal angles are pleasant without causing any shadow effects. On the right side of K42F there are 2 USB 2.0 ports, VGA, HDMI and combo microphone/headphone jack. Left hand side holds an additional USB port and Blu-ray reader. The 2.53GHz Intel i5 processor coupled with 4 GB RAM makes the K42F a swift performer.

The Asus K42F comes with a 5,400 rpm-500 GB hard disk. The machine is loaded with Windows 7 ultimate which boots in less than one minute. Product is equipped with new Intel GMA HD which provides 3D support to DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.1.The 802.11 a/g/n Wi-Fi radio can transfer data at the speed of 20.8 Mbps. Battery when completely charged lasts for approximately 4 hours. However this machine proves to be less efficient than Dell studio 14z in many aspects.

It takes around 2 hours to completely recharge the battery. Inbuilt products include Google Picasa 3, Adobe Reader 9 and LifeFrame and Norton internet security with 90 days trial. Asus provides 2 years global warranty for this product. Performance delivered by the Asus K42F is really excellent and with such portability it is bound to be a hit. This impressive multitasking metal case with high speed can be purchased at $999 which is incredibly reasonable.
