Asus U50F-RBBAG05 Reviews
The most interesting thing about Asus U50F-RBBAG05 is that is is powered by a faster processor than Asus UL50VT-RBBBK05 and still it is cheaper. Both laptop now only has similar names but they look quite similar. The U50F differs slightly in design due to its glossy casing, larger touch pad, curved edges and more thickness.
At $649, the U50F is $100 cheaper than the UL50VT, yet it runs on faster 2.1 GHz Intel Core i3 M330 processor as compared to the ULV processor of the latter. Both laptops comes with 4GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 memory, 500GB 5,400rpm hard drive. But the U50F comes with integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD HM55 graphics as compared to the discrete graphics on UL50VT. At 1.3 inches, the U50F is 0.3 inch thicker than UL50VT and slightly heavier at 5.4 pounds.
At first glance, the laptop looks like a cheap laptop due to its glossy brown plastic lid and Asus logo in the matte black plastic. The keyboard and touch pad are housed in the matte brown plastic casing, which looks somewhat attractive. The keyboard itself is attractive due to its chiclet-style keys, which provide great typing experience. The inclusion of separate number pad caused some of the keys to be smaller and placed closer. The touch pad is slightly bigger than the one on the UL50VT. Though it supports multitouch gestures, there is only one rocker bar for both mouse buttons.
The U50F has tow power buttons to launch Windows 7 and Express Gate Splashtop OS environment. The Express Gate allows you to run important applications without booting the Windows 7 environment. If you boot the Windows 7 environment, the Express Gate button launches the power-saving modes.
Like the UL50VT, the U50F sports 15.6-inch glossy 16:9 LED screen, whose resolution of 1366×768 pixels is on lower side as compared to other displays. Most smaller laptops offer the same resolution but they are priced somewhat higher.
The bigger size of U50F allows it to accommodate few extra ports than its cousin UL50VT. The laptop house VGA and HDMI video ports, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, three USB 2.0, one eSATA port, multiformat memory card reader, ExpressCard/34, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and DVD/CD burner. As it is a budget laptop, there is no Bluetooth support.
