BlackBerry 9520

One of the best looking phones of BlackBerry series, BlackBerry 9520 or Storm2, as it is more commonly known was announced in October ’09 and was available just a month later in the UK. BlackBerry’s yet another smartphone is a great combination of communication facilities and entertainment facilities. Though not a lot of people look up to BlackBerry as a multimedia mobile, it has all necessary features that can make a successful multimedia mobile.

BlackBerry Storm has evolved tremendously from being BlackBerry’s first touchscreen phone to one of the best looking BlackBerries. 9520 has a fully touchscreen approach with only four physical keys at bottom of the screen. There are very few, but major differences between the two Storm versions from BlackBerry. Manufacturers were concentrating hard on rectifying bugs that were reported with the original BlackBerry Storm smartphone and a few disappointing aspects of the old BlackBerry Storm.

Storm2 has built-in support for Wi-Fi which was not present in original Storm from BlackBerry 9520 is also equipped with other connectivity solutions such as Bluetooth. A 3.2 megapixel camera is more than enough for business use but can come handy in certain situations. Versatile camera also has video capture ability which enhance its feature set and usability. A fully functional multimedia player supporting array of popular audio and video formats is also a prime feature of BlackBerry Storm2 9520.

Memory management of BlackBerry 9520 is also efficient with 2GB embedded multimedia card and up to 16GB expandable memory with microSD card. Touchscreen of BlackBerry 9520 has also improved from previous versions of the smartphone. The new SurePress touchscreen used in 9520 is more responsive to light touches and is pretty useful.

Change in operating system to BlackBerry OS v5.0 has also worked in its favor. The new OS adds a few useful features to the feature set of BlackBerry 9520. Simple things like cut and paste functionality have also been worked on by BlackBerry engineers suggesting that they have worked pretty hard on this one. But, Storm2 9520 is not a perfect BlackBerry either. Consumer feedback suggest that BlackBerry 9520 also has a few annoying bugs like crashing camera and slow UI. But, there’s always next time.
