Now a day, speaker system manufacturers are competing hard to outdo each other by making compact and single-speaker surround systems. These new speaker setups look more attractive and occupy less space. Priced at $850, the Boston Acoustics’ new Classic Series CS2310 is another 5.1 surround sound system which beats the single speaker systems in almost every regard. The system features satellite and subwoofer package but it doesn’t perform well when compared with other similarly sized 5.1 systems.
The Boston Acoustics CS 2310C is a six-piece speaker system consists of four compact CS23 satellites along with CS223C center-channel speaker and the CS Sub 10 subwoofer. The speakr system comes in two vinyl-covered color options: black walnut and cherry. Both of these color schemes comes with removable, black-cloth grilles. The satellites and subwoofer can be bought separately. You also have option to add extra CS23 speakers, which will cost you around $120 and you can enjoy the surround channels of 6.1/7.1 systems.
The CS23 satellites, which come with the system, are very small. The satellites measure 7.75 inches high, 5 inches wide and 5 inches deep. The central channel speaker is slightly larger in size with dimensions of 5×12.5×4.4 inches. You can place the speakers on stands, shelves, or you can mount them on wall with the help of metal keyhole slots located on their rear.
The CS Sub 10 subwoofer measures 15x15x15-inches and has simple looks but it is quite heavy, weighing 32 pounds. The subwoofer houses most of the connectors and controls on its back panel, which include stereo and LFE inputs along with rotary volume and crossover knobs, and phase- and power-control switches. However, there are no speaker-level inputs or outputs on the back of the subwoofer.
The Boston Acoustics Classic Series also comes with the CS2300 5-channel surround-sound-system configuration, which is priced at $600. Though, the Classic Series is same as the CS2310 but it lacks Sub 10 subwoofer.
