Buffalo LinkStation Duo

Market leader in Network Attached Storage management, Buffalo has come up with yet another business solution for linking multiple storage devices together. While Buffalo clearly aims the product to business users, it’s not really useless for home users either. Their latest product was launched at recently concluded CES ’10 and is expected to be available in the market in a couple of months. Buffalo’s new Multimedia storage solution is called as LinkStation Duo allowing users to store their files on a centralized storage from different computers which are interconnected for centralized storage.

The NAS solution from Buffalo can be configured in both RAID 0 and RAID 1 configurations as per consumers’ needs and demands. They can achieve storage efficiency and performance by switching between these configurations. With a little tweaking, the configuration can easily be upgraded to 40 MP/s transfer service which is great as far as NAS goes. Buffalo LinkStation Duo can also be used for advanced purposes like streaming multimedia files to supported devices including PC or other UPNP multimedia devices.

Just like any other NAS solution, LinkStation Duo jells very well with iTunes and with compatible iTunes software, users can access their favorite tunes from any connected computer or multimedia device. Almost all popular stream formats including Windows and Macintosh standards are supported by LinkStation Duo. Advanced features of LinkStation Duo include Gigabit Ethernet support with which you can seamlessly access high speed internet with your Buffalo station. Other connectivity options like GPS and multiple USB ports are also featured in LinkStation Duo.

Experts believe that Buffalo LinkStation Duo has a few very good features that can really help it seal its place in long term race. There is a superior version, Pro available for purchase with a few enhanced features like built-in FTP server and LinkBackup Manager technology which are not present in other models of LinkStation NAS solution. LinkStation 1TB Pro Duo NAS model is available at $200 onwards on online retail sites like Amazon and Newengg. Overall, if you are looking for a multi-drive NAS solution, LinkStation Duo is one of the better products from Buffalo at reasonable price.
