Canon – imageFORMULA DR-3010C review – a scanner with a tremendous high volume document management system

The new scanner launched by Cannon, the imageFORMULA DR-3010C is not just an average simple gadget. It is much more than that. This scanner is one of the quickest scanners in the market and is the best when it comes to managing high volume documents. With up to 30 double sided pages per minute and up to 3,000 documents per day, the imageFORMULA DR-3010C clearly beats all its competitors. It beats the competitor scanners in size too as it is smaller in size than almost all scanners in the market. The scanner can be connected to the PC via a high speed USB 2.0 interface, for which the cable is supplied.

The sheets to the scanner are fed with a 50-sheet hopper on the top. The scanned documents are collected in a fold-out tray at the front. The ultrasonic double feed sensor makes sure that there are no jams in the scanning process. Features like automatic paper size, colour detection and intelligence improve image quality in the process. The power to the scanner is provided by an external AC adapter. The scanner is able to scan in full colour, greyscale or black and white at a resolution of 600dpi. The imageFORMULA DR-3010C is compact in terms of controls with just a couple of buttons to start and stop a scan and two more to select a pre programmed job number. The Twain and ISIS drivers enable the Canon scanner to be used with most existing document management systems. Other software included with the device are Nuance’s PaperPort package, a general purpose scanning tool called CapturePerfect, and OmniPage SE that can be used to convert scanned documents into editable text via OCR.

The scanner can also handle long documents like invoices clubbed together, and documents larger than A4 which are tagged back together in software. The scanner is a bit on the high price side. At a price of $829, it is not the cheapest available scanner. All in all, the imageFORMULA DR-3010C, owing to its performance and excellent high volume document management system, is an excellent scanning gadget.
