Canon has launched series of new high-definition video-capable point-and-shoot cameras and the PowerShot SD780 IS, priced at $279.99, is the smallest and the cheapest model in the series. To keep the price low, the company has compromised on the 12.1-megapixel SD780’s screen and button sizes. The tiny camera also features an HDMI-out port. You will notice that the SD780 is smaller than most of the smart-phones in the market. The camera measures 2.2 by 3.4 by 0.7 inches and weighs a mere 4.5 ounces. It boasts of a solid, brushed-metal construction that lends strength to its body. The camera offers 3X optical zoom and its zoom lens boasts of a focal range of 5.9mm to 17.9mm. Its corresponding maximum f-stops rest at f/3.2 to f/5.8.
The camera features a 2.5 inches big LCD screen on its back, which might seem small to many photographers. This is only because of the fact that the entire camera is a lot smaller than conventional cameras of the similar feature-pack. The buttons on the camera are also pretty small. But you will notice that critical controls such as the shutter and zoom trigger are large enough for a comfortable use. The camera is extremely fast on the front of processing speed.
The camera is excellent in terms of performance. It offers extremely low levels of chromatic aberration and results in natural reds, blues, and greens without any bleeding. The noise reduction offered by this camera at the highest ISO sensitivity of 1600 is also overwhelming. At this sensitivity, the camera boasts of a 1.5 percent noise in its gray patch. The performance of the camera in dim light is also very good and it gives images with super-sharp and with near-perfect colors.
The camera can even recognize faces hidden behind eyeglasses, thanks to its impressive face-detection feature. The camera can also record high-definition videos. With the help of its mini HDMI-out, you can easily send audio and video to HDTVs. Overall, this less expensive camera does all the basics well. With features like high-definition video capture and performance that results in great image quality, the PowerShot SD780 IS is a camera worth going for.
