Casio is a well known manufacturer of camera rather than cell phones. Those who have seen Casio handsets will agree that they are ruggedized and can withstand rough handling. The Exilim C721 is the latest handset from manufacturer, which is available for $279.99 with a two-year service agreement and a $50 mail-in rebate from the Verizon Wireless.
Measuring 4.06×1.97x 0.77 inches (HWD), the handset weighs just 4.76 ounces and boasts of slim profile. Despite of its slim profile, the handset is solidly built and is military-certified. The handset can withstand harshest condition, whether you throw it in water, humidity, rain, dust, shock, and even solar radiation. The handset is provided with covers for headset and charger ports along with lock mechanism for the battery cover.
The front of the device houses a OLED display, which display all the necessary information such as time, date, signal strength, battery life, caller ID, message, missed call alert, and current music track. The left spine houses microSD memory card slot along with charging pad, while the right spine houses headset jack alongside back button, volume rocker, control key and dedicated camera control. The back panel houses the camera alongside, LED flash and speaker.
The handset sports a 2.3-inch internal screen display, which supports 262k colors. The internal screen also works as viewfinder for the camera as you can twist the flip to face the internal display outwards. Combined with all the dedicated camera controls and the large view finder, the handset works like any other Casio point-and-shoot camera. The navigation array includes round toggle surrounding OK key, two soft keys, flashlight control, camera/camcorder control, and speakerphone control. Another interesting feature is the included charging/syncing dock.
The basic features of the handset includes 1,000-entry phone book, vibrate mode, text messaging, MMS, calculator, timer, calendar, speakerphone, world clock, alarm clock, stopwatch, notepad, and voice commands. The advanced features include IM, integrated GPS, stereo Bluetooth, mobile web email and visual voice mail. The handset also supports Verizon’s broadband services, such as V Cast Video and V cast Music with Rhapsody.
The most distinguishing feature of the handset is its 5.1-megapixel camera. The camera has all the features of point-and-shoot cameras. These include seven image resolutions, white balance, two quality settings, digital zoom, optical zoom, LED flash, 15 scene modes, auto focus and much more.
The Casio Exilim C721 has a rated battery life of 3.83 hours talk time and 22.5 days standby time.
