Clearwire has announced the introduction of its 4G WiMAX wireless broadband network in Atlanta. With this rollout, Atlanta has emerged as the largest city in the USA to have such kind of service.
The 4G WiMAX wireless service can be accessed by nearly three million people in a 1,200-square mile area. The service ensures DSL-like cable speeds wirelessly. Operating on a WiMAX radio system from Motorola, the service will extend realistic download speeds between 4 and 6Mbps. Its speed is higher than 15Mbps. As of now, the 3G networks offer download speeds between 1 and 1.7Mbps.
With 4G WiMAX wireless service, the customers in Atlanta will enjoy high speed internet service whenever they are in the coverage area. They can easily perform online video chats with customers from the field.
Clear uses Motorola’s mobile WiMAX-enabled USB modem. You just need to plug the USB into your laptop. It costs just $59.99. Or you can use it as rent for a price of $4.99 per month. It is purchased online or from stores.
The company also offers residential service plan in which, the customers are offered a small book sized wireless high-speed modem. They need to connect the modem to a power supply in their home or office. After that, they are required to connect the modem to their PC or wireless router. This makes installation easier without interfering the regular schedule of consumers. The Motorola residential modem can be purchased for $79.99 or leased at $4.99 per month.
The Clear Spot feature allows any Wi-Fi device compatible with 802.11b/g. It creates a personal Wi-Fi hotspot that runs in the WiMAX service area. It supports connectivity to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices like computers, mobile phones, portable gaming, consoles, cameras and others to the Internet by means of a ClearUSB modem.
Clearwire will introduce this service in Las Vegas later this summer.
