Coby MP705 reviews – touch sensitive music player for just $50

Coby has lot of music players to offer. The range of players start from $20 iPod Shuffle-like player to $100 multimedia player which offers you a touch-screen. The MP705 lies at the middle of the line of players with a price tag of $49.99. For such an affordable price, you get a player with 2-inch screen and touch-sensitive controls along with decent earphones. As expected, the device gives you a feel of its cheap price.

The MP705 shares its design features with Samsung YP-T10. The player is made from black plastic and metal case which is underlit. The player measures 3.7×1.6×0.4 inches and sports a 2-inch display which dominates its front face. The display offers a resolution of 220×176 pixels which on a lower for a 2-inch screen.

The navigation array lies below the screen and consists of touch-sensitive buttons which are located around a central button. Though the central control looks like a wheel but it is a button. The wheel is surrounded by four arrows whose functionality depends on the type of menu and navigation mode. The Menu button and Option button are located above the central control. The up and down arrows are assigned to the volume control. The top edge of the device features a power/hold button whereas the headphone jack along with the mini USB is located on the bottom edge.

The MP705 comes bundled with a pair of decent quality earbuds, a USB cable for connectivity with PC and a CD which has a quick start guide and file conversion software. You will definitely need the conversion software as it does not support many file formats. The MP705 has a support for MP3, WMA, Protected WMA, and OGG for audio files. It also supports JPEG and GIF image formats, and AVI (MPEG-4/Xvid) is the only supported format for the video files. The player also offers several EQ presets which include Classic, Jazz and Bass, and a SRS spatial effect tries to give you the surround sound. The player also has a built in FM radio. The FM radio allows you to save 40 presets and change the sensitivity of Auto Scan. The player also supports the E-Books but you can enjoy the text books only, no place for audio books.

Coby has rated the battery life of MP705 at 24 hours for audio and 8 hours for video.
