D-Link aims to make its green products, greener

dlinkdgs-2205In today’s world, almost everybody is becoming all the more environment conscious. In the race of protecting the environment, even big companies are not behind. Companies are launching greener products by the day to do their bit for the environment conservation. One such company, D-Link has long had “green” products dedicated to computer working. By saying that the devices are green, it means that the devices are energy efficient. These so called green devices consume less energy than other similar conventional products. In order to make them more energy efficient, the company has been always into further development of the same.

For starters, D-Link started with its DGS-2205 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch. According to the company, this switch is one of the four gigabit switches for the home office that is chosen to go for a redesign this year. According to D-Link, the new DGS-2205 will be capable of reducing consumption up to 73 percent maximum compared to other devices of the similar nature. Steven Joe, president and chief executive of D-Link Systems was quoted as saying “Our goal is to maintain industry leadership as a pioneer of Green networking technology by building in even more energy-saving features into our products without sacrificing performance. We plan to continue the momentum of success we’ve realized with our first generation Green products as we seek new avenues that protect the environment and help our customers save money in the process.”

In the newest and revamped D-Link switches, a two point energy conserving process is followed. One of those aims at optimizing electricity used depending upon the length of cable. D-Link’s technology analysis the length of cable used. It is a known fact that home computer networks use shorter cables than the ones used in big offices. So, the company is eying the saving potential here. The other strategy gives the device the ability to detect whether the computers in the network are turned on or turned off. In case the network computers are turned off, the switch could save consumption by going into standby mode.
