Dahon has announced an only one of its kind device christened as the Dahon BioLogic FreeCharge USB charger. The concept of this charger differs from the USB chargers that you find in the market today.
Not like loads of other USB chargers, this one does not pair itself with the dashboard of a car. Instead, it gets connected to a bicycle and makes use of the mechanical energy, to charge mobile devices.
This way, the charger helps its users and their handy devices healthy and charged up. The charger, predominantly, converts the energy used by users while pedaling the bicycle into electric energy. And this obtained electric energy helps charge the devices.
This charger has got the capacity of charging portable USB devices through a bicycle. It comes with a small silicone-encased box, which needs to be hooked up to the bicycle’s generator hub.
This box is put up around a battery, which boasts of smoothing the dips and spikes resulted in because of slow and fast cycling speeds. This ascertains the proper charged of the device. It also helps get rid of the worry of the device being damaged because of power fluctuations.
Cycling for about 3hrs is must if users would like to charge their devices fully. Looking at this capability, it seems to be grabbing attention of all those who are fond of cycling trips.
In addition, this charger is also said to work well with a lots of devices such as the Apple iPod. The Dahon BioLogic FreeCharge charger is slated to be made available in March 2010. The device would be coming with the price tag of round $100 (approx. Rs. 4,866).
The concept of this charger is quite interesting and has the capacity of winning many hearts if properly carried out. But, there are very few concept-based products that have been launched in the market. Let’s hope it is implemented.
