Dell unveils its Adamo Notebook

dell_adamoDell has taken out a page from Apple’s book with its latest unibody Adamo notebook. This machine seems like an amalgamation of the Apple MacBook Air and HP’s Voodoo Envy 133. Dell has announced that their Adamo is the thinnest laptop in the market, being mere 0.65 inch thick. The Dell Adamo is available in two colors, namely “Pearl” and “Onyx” colors. The unibody design of the laptop does not smudge up in your hands. The Adamo features a brushed-metal case. The screen of the laptop offers a native resolution of 1386 by 768 pixels. The screen features edge-to-edge glass finishing and is very sharp to look at.

The frame lining features a couple of USB 2.0 ports, a headphone jack, an ethernet jack, a hybrid USB and eSATA port, and a DisplayPort output. As its reviews, the laptop offers integrated Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11n wireless support. The laptop features a series of dots beside the keyboard that do the job of a microphone input. The Adamo also features a user accessible SIM card slot on its side, a feature absent in almost all laptops.

The keyboard is designed it such a way that its keys slope down. The top portion of the keyboard features a small touch-inductive control panel that consists of basic multimedia shortcuts. As far as performance is concerned, the Adamo is clearly a winner. It features a 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo U9300 CPU that is supported by 2GB of RAM and by 128 GB solid-state drive. The battery of the laptop lasts for around 3 hours on a single round of charge. This model is priced at $1999. You can also lay your hands on the super-deluxe version that starts at a price tag of $2700. This system features a 1.4GHz CPU powered by 4GB of RAM. This device comes with 3G support and features a 128 GB solid-state drive. Dell has announced that the Adamo will start shipping by March 24.

Dell is bound and determined to show that it can be a bigger player in the consumer market. The company also is trying to shake its reputation for stodgy design.

I’ve been testing two new Dells that aim to prove both points. One is a pricey, style-conscious, ultrathin laptop; the other is an economical all-in-one desktop with an optional touch screen that lets you flick through pictures, music and video, and perform other tasks, with just your fingers.
