The $480 Inspiron 545s-1476 is among the latest desktops from Dell that are designed with attractive slim tower chassis. The overall design of the system is quite satisfactory but the components and features that are locked inside the slim chassis are a bit disappointing. Tough there are number of options for future component upgrades, the outdated features and slow performance fails to impress the users.
The Inspiron 545s-1476N is like just another system in its lineup that is offered by Dell in the last six months. The PC is built on the same chassis as that of its older siblings. The slim tower and space saving design, though old, can appeal to lot of users. The front face of the manages to accommodate two USB ports, dual-layer DVD burner, standard audio/headphone jacks, and a media card reader.
Inside its slim tower chassis, the desktop system accommodates a 2.6GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 CPU, 4GBof 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 256MB Intel GMA 3100 integrated graphics chip, 640GB of 5400rpm hard drive, dual-layer DVD burner, and 10/100 Ethernet LAN. The desktop system comes with pre-installed Windows 7 Premium 64-bit operating system.
The Dell Inspiron seems nothing but a looser when compared with Gateway, which is priced at $450. With a price drop of $30, the Gateway offers faster Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, FireWire port, HDMI-out, eSATA, 7.1 analog audio, digital audio, lots of USB ports, and Ethernet. The Dell Inspiron definitely fails to attract the potential users due to better features and low price that is offered by Gateway.
The only advantage the Dell has over the Gateway, is that there is plenty of space of upgrading the Dell Inspiron. The Dell offers room for 16x PCI Express graphics card slot, room for extra hard drive, two memory slots, 1x PCI Express slot, and two standard PCI slots. The Gateway offers room for one graphics card expansion, nothing else.
