Dell SX13-163B Reviews – impressive 13-inch notebook

dellsx13-163bDell has recently launched two 13-inch laptops: Adamo and SX13-163B. The Adamo impressed everyone with its high end features and less than an inch thickness but it has starting price of wallet-crushing $1,999 while the SX13-163B is reasonably priced at $949. The SX13-163B offers some unique features that set it apart from a run-of-the-mill Inspiron.

Measuring 12.5 inches wide by 9.3 inches deep 1.4 inches high, the SX13 is thicker than Dell Adamo and Apple’s 13-inch MacBook. Moreover, it is heavier than the two with overall weight of 5.1 pounds (the AC adapter adds another 0.8 pound). The SX13 is powered by 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor and is equipped with incredible 4GB of 800MHz DDR3 RAM. The graphics are handled by Nvidia GeForce 9400M G graphics module which is integrated on Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset. The laptop comes with preinstalled Windows Vista Premium (64-bit) operating system and provides storage of 320GB on its hard drive spinning at 7,200rpm.

The SX13-163B is hybrid of Dell XPS and Studio laptop line up and it is evident from its rounded hinge and tapered design. The SX13 is designed in shiny piano black casing with black leather trim covering a strip on the back of the lid near the hinge.

The SX13 boasts of backlit keyboard with flat, widely spaced keys like the ones you find on Apple and Sony laptops. You will also find a row of touch-sensitive media controls located just above the keyboard. Also, there are buttons for Wi-Fi antenna, and ejecting a disc from DVD burner just next to the media controls.

The SX13 sports a 13.3-inch LCD screen with native resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The display is same as the one you find on Apple’s 13-inch MacBook. If you order the laptop directly from Dell, you have option to get a thinner LED display, which will cost additional $125.

The Dell SX13-163B is equipped with all the necessary ports and connectors which include VGA-out, HDMI, DisplayPort, Stereo speakers, headphone (x2)/microphone jacks, 2 USB 2.0 (1 USB/eSATA), mini-FireWire, SD card reader, ExpressCard/54, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and slot-loading DVD burner.
