Fujifilm FinePix Z200fd Review

The tagline for Fujifilm’s FinePix Z200fd says, “Focus on your style”. This point-and-shoot camera has great looks, but it seems that Fujifilm is trying to hide the poor image quality with its tagline. The camera is priced at $299 and compared with other $300 pocket cameras, the images of 10-megapixel Z200fd lacks in detail and has some color fringing.

The front looks of Z200fd are quite similar to Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and DSC-T300. The front panels slide up and down in Sony models, while in Z200fd the panel slide diagonally from right-hand corner to left hand corner. The back side of the camera has 2.70icn h LCD screen and all controls other than Shutter and Face detection controls.

The overall experience with the camera is okay but it can’t be called ideal. Two dedicated buttons allows you to zoom in and out but a toggle button would have been better. The LCD screen is a bit smaller than those offered by other companies in this price range.

The Z200fd offers you all the usual features that you would find in most $300 cameras. Its face detection works okay but loses track of the face of the subjects when they turn around or turn to the sides. Out of so many preset modes, the “Natural Light & With Flash” proves to be the best feature of the camera. In this mode, the camera takes two consecutive shots, one at high ISO setting without any flash and another one at low ISO using the flash.

With its built-in infrared, you can send the pictures to other Z200fd cameras or other IR devices. But now a day, it’s rare to find IR equipped devices as most devices have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. So, it doesn’t seem like revolutionary feature.

The image quality of Z200fd is the weakest point of the camera and that’s the only function of camera. There is color fringing in the images whether they are taken outdoor or indoor. The pictures look pretty sharp but are not that good when compared to other cameras’ images. The video quality is same as the picture quality. You can clearly notice the noise in the videos.

The Fujifilm Z200fd has lot of features to lure you, but the camera looks on paper and at first glance. But the shooting experience is totally disappointing.
