Fujitsu offers new Anti-Theft Protection Solution for Notebooks

According to a survey by the Poneman Institute, not less than fifty percent of all business travellers have private company data on their notebook, and sixty five percent do not take any safety measures at all against theft or loss. Considering the rising theft of notebooks with private data in recent years, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the joint-venture between Germany-based Siemens & Japan-based Fujitsu, has launched its latest security package, which is based on the ultramodern anti-theft technology from Intel & Computrace.

Armin Kumpf, senior director of business mobile at Fujitsu Siemens, said: “Dialog with our customers and our own surveys have shown us that data security is one of the major concerns for company IT managers especially when it comes to implementing a mobility strategy. The reliable protection of sensitive data thus tops the list of features that we add to our business notebooks.”

The multi-use anti-theft protection, that makes use of the security solutions DataProtect and SystemTrack, caters the rising needs of its customers for efficient security concepts and company data safety. The protection suite will be made available in the form of an option in selected ESPRIMO Mobile models and in the Lifebook T5010 and Lifebook E8420.

The users need to register their laptops with the Computrace Customer Centre. In case there is any loss or theft, the customers can directly notify Computrace Customer Center through online or phone, similar to the loss of a credit card. While the SystemTrack tries to track stolen hardware in real time and identifies its location as soon as the device is hooked to the Intranet or Internet, DataProtect is utilized for chiefly confidential data.

The support desk can make access to the system and protect the sensitive data centrally in the system or fully remove the data. If the device comes back to the customer, he can take away the protection and boot the system again by making use of a special password.

FSC has said that the anti-theft protection solution is expected to be made available in select models from the Q1 2009.
