Gateway NV5207u Reviews

Gateway_NV5207uThe Gateway NV5207u would have been a decent budget laptop if it weren’t for its slow processing unit. The laptop offers good combination of looks, specs, few extra features and nice array of ports. But the most disappointing feature is its slow Dual Core AMD processor and its poor battery life despite having slower processor.

With price tag of $479.99, the Gateway NV5207u qualifies as a budget laptop. It is portable and fairly lightweight at 5.8 pounds and 6.6 pounds along with AC adapter. The laptop measures 14.6 inches by 9.8 inches by 1-1.5 inches and sports a 15.6 inches diagonally measuring display. Despite being Dual-Core, the 2.1GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-65 is a slower processor. The laptop comes with 4GB of 667MHz DDR2memory and 320GB 5,400rpm hard drive. As expected, it doesn’t have discrete GPU but integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics processing unit. IT has AMD M780G chipset and comes with preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

Like many other Gateway laptops, the NV5207u has a glossy lid, which is provided with honeycomb pattern along with silver Gateway logo. The Coffee Brown lid contrasts well with the black interior. The overall design of the laptop is very attractive and it is perfect for office as well as home environments.

The 15.6-inch LED-backlit screen is located in the glossy black bezel. The screen resolution is pretty standard at 1366×768 pixels and it has aspect ratio of 16:9. The display is bright enough for watching videos even though it’s not the best display in its category. The same is true for audio quality, which is quite moderate despite being Dolby sound.

The keypad is designed in black, which makes the interior all black. The keys have to be made smaller to accommodate the full number pad. Moreover, it makes the touchpad off centered with respect to the display. A row above the keyboard has touch sensitive controls for volume, Wi-Fi, touchpad lock, and two shortcut keys.

You will find all the ports and connectors that are standard in its category, with the exception of ExpressCard. These include VGA-out, HDMI, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, four USB 2.0, multiformat card reader, Modem, Ethernet,Wi-Fi and DVD burner.
