Gateway is well known for offering best deal in any category of laptop and the NV7802u is no exception either. The 17-inch NV7802u offers great combination of features, performance and value for money. It is not an overstatement to say that it offers best combination of ports, horsepower, battery life, and looks among 17-inch laptops.
The NV7802u is a retail desktop replacement laptop. So you will get fixed configuration and if you want something that this laptop doesn’t offer, you will have to look somewhere else. For your $649.99, the Gateway offers you 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 CPU and 4GB, 1,066MHz DDR3 memory. At 16.2×11x1.4 inches and 6.8 pounds, the NV7802 is fairly portable, considering that it is a 17-inch laptop. The laptop is not meant for hardcore gaming as it comes with integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD graphics chip. The laptop is equipped with Mobile Intel GM45 Express chipset and 500GB hard drive, which spins at 5400rpm. The storage space is larger than the standard storage in its category. Like most recent laptops, the NV7802u runs on Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) operating system.
On the design front, the Gateway NV7802u is a pretty attractive laptop with its NightSky Black lid, which is provided with honeycomb pattern along with silver Gateway logo. The interior of the laptop is also designed in black. Open the hinge to reveal the 17.3-inch display, which is surrounded by shiny black bezel. The display has 16:9 aspect ratio and 1600×900-pixel resolution, which is pretty standard for budget laptops in its category. Though the display is large but it not the best and brightest in 17-inch category. Moreover, the off-center viewing is almost impossible as there is sudden loss of contrast with viewing angle. Being a 17-inch laptop, the NV7802u manages to accommodate full number pad along with full sized keyboard. Below the keyboard, there is a touchpad, which is locate d slightly off-centre and it has s single bar that acts as mouse buttons.

Another great feature is the inclusion of touch-sensitive controls that are located in a row above the keyboard. The row has controls for volume, wireless, touchpad lock, programmable key for launching Web browser, opening a file, or application, and key for launching file backup software.

You get plenty of ports for networking, connectivity and expansion. These include VGA-out and HDMI video ports, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, 4 USB 2.0, multiformat card reader, Modem, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and DVD burner. However, there are number of omissions like Bluetooth and ExpressCard/54 that you will find on other laptops in its category.
