NVIDIA seems to be getting tough competition from ATI when it comes to full-scale high performance graphics cards for desktop PCs. But NVIDIA clearly have upper hand when it comes to mobile graphics performance. NVIDIA GeForce M series has been used by many leading computer manufacturers for mid and high-end laptops. NVIDIA recently launched a new series of mobile graphics processors- GeForce 300M G. The series is expected to be a mixed bag of performance, mid level and entry level graphics cards.
Probably the most promising one of their new GeForce 300M G series cards is the GTS 360M. The card will feature 96 processing cores and 413 gigaflops of processing power. But, GDDR5 compatibility really lifts up performance of this graphics card. NVIDIA says that the new graphics cards will be optimized for running on Windows 7 operating system and make full use of its highly efficient graphics resource management system. Advanced features like GPU power video encoding and on-the-fly transcoding are also supported by these new graphics cards.
GeForce 300M G cards also feature NVIDIA exclusive PhyX technology that promises ultimate gaming performance for enthusiasts at reasonable prices. Other NVIDIA exclusive technologies like CUDA tech are also deployed in GeForce 300M G series. CUDA technology is used to dynamically accelerate GPU processing power with respect to optimized applications to run about 20X faster than standard CPU clock. Gamers can achieve performance up to 40X (high performance category) using top-rated graphics card in GeForce 300M G series that is the GTS 360M.
Players can enjoy maximum resolution of 1920×1080p while playing HD games with PhyX support. While other cards meant to be cheap and affordable also give satisfactory performance. As there is no graphics card from Enthusiast category of NVIDIA GeForce mobile cards, this series is clearly not aiming to attract gamers who like to carry their passion around on their laptops. Enthusiast category is still ruled by unrivaled GeForce GTX 280M and 260M graphics processors. We had really hoped that NVIDIA would have something high-performance in store this time. But, gamers would not be disappointed with what they’ve got from NVIDIA this time.
None of the new GeForce 300M G series cards are expected to support DirectX 11, but NVIDIA has confirmed that all of them will support DirectX 10.
