These days, it is a herculean task to search for a pair of stereo PC speakers that cost less than $100 and do not sacrifice sound quality and design. The Genius SP-T1200, priced at $99, aims to solve this problem. Straight out of Logitech’s design book, the speakers boast of a slick look and convenient touch panel controls. These controls are housed on the right speaker. The speaker set is good as far as sound quality is concerned, but suffers from general problems that you would expect from a budget-2.0 setup. These problems are distortion at high volumes and a predominant lack of bass response.
The speakers are dressed in black-and-silver and measure 8 by 3.14 by 3.77 inches. They are connected to each other via a thick hardwired cable that displays a very little slack. A grille in the top portion of each speaker covers the drivers. As mentioned before, the under-lit touch controls are found on the right speaker. You can change the volume, adjust bass levels, activate the mute, and adjust treble levels with the help of a one touch slider on the right speaker. The side panel of the right speaker houses two 3.5mm jacks, one a headphone output and the other an Aux In. The power supply finds its place of connection to the rear panel. The design issues include a fact that the cables are hardwired. This makes speaker placement a problem.
The speakers are pretty attractive to look at and are full of a variety of features that are unlikely in a budget speakers set. As mentioned before, you can conveniently adjust bass, treble, and volume with a single touch slider. The speaker set also features an uncommon mute control. The audio performance of the set is pretty good but gets distorted at very high volumes. The base response is however not very good. Do not expect any kind of booming bass response from this speaker set. Overall, the Genius SP-T1200 is a low priced speaker set that boasts of a good looking design and decent audio quality.
