The GoPro Hero Motorsports Wide is a great camera which allows you to capture beautiful videos and images while in motion. It is a vehicle-mounted camera system which is capable of recording video and taking still photographs while your vehicle is moving. The camera system includes a camera along with waterproof and shockproof housing, and mounting hardware which include a large suction cup.
At the core of the GoPro camera system lays a small GoPro Hero Wide digital camera. The front panel houses a small-size display along with power button, the wide angle lens, and a red recording light. The power button doubles as the mode button. The top edge features the shutter button whereas the optical viewfinder and battery door are located on the back of the device. The device is powered by two AAA lithium batteries which provides one hour of recording time. It is advised not to use the alkaline as camera might be exposed to harsh temperatures and vibrations. The camera also features a propriety port which is used for downloading photos, and the SD card slot is also located on the side of the camera.
The water proof and shock-resisting housing is the most distinguishing feature of the camera system. The camera housing is consists of clear plastic and features a hinged back panel which is used for removing the camera. It also features a removable lens cover meant for in-vehicle usage. The camera housing features two external buttons, both are sealed, which are meant for operating the device when it is enclosed in the casing. The system comes with a suction cup mount so that the camera can be locked perfectly in place. You can not only mount the camera inside your car but it can be mounted on the helmet or can be strapped to the wrist.
The GoPro Hero is capable of recording one hour of video at 512×384. The videos are stored on a 2GB memory card which you will have to buy. It also captures 5-megapixel still images which are also stored on the memory card. Though the recorded videos also include sound but the device has only microphone, which means that the sound quality will be very poor.
The camera is priced at $139 for the bare-bones system, and costs $199 along with suction-cup vehicle mount.
