The HP EliteBook 8440w is the HP’s first 14 inch workstation. Workstations are the high-performance business laptops which are different from the regular laptops. Workstations are the PCs that are used for scientific and or technical applications. Thus anything termed as workstation must meet some hardware as well as software requirements. The Elitebook 8440w is built using HP DuraCase heritage. This signifies that it is built by using strong magnesium alloy inner shell which is brushed by aluminum outer shell. Therefore it definitely packs a punch.

The base of the laptop is very robust as compared to other traditional laptops. The Elitebook is made to support weight of 300 pounds which indicates its strength. It is HP’s thinnest and lightest workstation specially made for the use of engineers, developers, graphic designers and power users. It is provided with ISV graphic certification and 14 inch diagonal display.

It consists of 14 inch anti glare display with 16:9 wide screen ratio. At 1600 x 900 pixels this display serves at its best. Incorporation of lap-wiring speakers used in EliteBook provides and offer excellent highs and mid tones with a hint of bass. The full size keyboard of the EliteBook is a nice update from the previous versions. The synoptic touchpad is very sensitive to touch with scroll key on the right hand side placed quiet comfortably.

The Six cell battery weighs 5.4 pounds makes it heavier and less portable as compared to ULV systems appearing this days. This EliteBook is not bulky and heavy as compared to Lenovo Thinkpad W700 or even the EliteBook 8730w. Above the keyboards there are few touch enabled controls. This controls for web browser launch, Hp’s QuickLook 3 launch, wireless, mute, and other volume controls. At the bottom right of the keyboard there is key for optional fingerprint reader.

EliteBook 8440w has been integrated with genuine windows 7 professional 32 or 64 bit and Intel core i7 processors. It includes Intel QM57 express chip set family. Internal memory varies with product from 1GB to 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM. Storage capacity also varies from 160 to 320 GB. It includes NVIDIA quadro FX 380M graphics with 512 MB gDDR3 dedicated video memory. This configuration insures a speedy performance. It is available for $1649 which may seem high but probably worth the price.
