HP Mini 1000 netbook – 10.2-inch Display with a Custom OS

As the newer models of gadgets are being strutted down in the market today, the rat-race of owning the new gadgets is also getting faster. Those who have just now bought a new gadget could find themselves in dilemma when another avant-garde gadget is launched in the wild goose chase of today’s market. In such a situation, it is well-understood how it feels for those who have just purchased netbooks.

The latest one to enter the portable mini laptop market is the successor of HP 2133 Mini-Note: Mini 1000, which has already got a hands-on review from Gizmodo, jkOnTheRun, & Engadget just like its successor (2133 Mini-Note) had got when it was rolled out in the market.

Weighing 2.25lbs (8.9-inch) or 2.4lbs (10.2-inch), the HP Mini 1000 is measured 10.3 x 6.56 x 0.99-inches, and is built-in with audio in/out, 10/100 Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, an SD/MMC slot and VGA output via a non-standard port. It is also equipped with WiFi b/g and optional Bluetooth v2.1, as well as an integrated microphone and 0.3-megapixel webcam. A 3G option is to come in December. An optional HD video decode card can be specified to enhance the Mini 1000’s multimedia credentials; as standard it utilizes Intel’s GMA950 incorporated chipset.

The HP Mini 1000 with MIE makes use of a custom version of Linux, which is fettled for multimedia and internet use. Start-up time is actually highly reduced, and it comes pre -loaded with a browser, multi-client IM application, Skype built-in with video call functionality plus a media player happy with streaming online video.

Four versions of the HP Mini 1000 will be on offer: which will use Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, a change from the VIA processor used in the 2133. The HP Mini 1000 is going to offer Windows XP Home on choosing a 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 BrightView displays or 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 , 512MB or 1GB of DDR2 RAM and either a 60GB 4,200rpm hard-drive or 8/16GB SSD.
