HP revamps its Mini 1000 with Linux based Mobile Internet operating system

The market if flooded with lot of Netbooks from various manufacturers and these Netbooks come with similar hardware and software. So, the manufacturers are looking for other ways entice the potential buyers. With the introduction of Mobile Internet Experience, the HP has tried something new with its popular Mini 1000 keeping the hardware same and providing the whle new experience with its own sleek custom interface.
The HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition boasts of similar design of the popular HP Mini 1000 but it leaps one step ahead with Mobile internet (Mi) software instead of using Windows. HP’s new interface is much more user friendly than the one found on other Linux Netbooks which include Acer Aspire One and Asus Eee PC. The new interface provides easy access to e-mail, Web, music, photos and program launcher via Home screen that you don’t find on traditional desktop.
Measuring 10.3 inches wide by 6.6 inches deep by 0.95 inches high, the netbook weighs 2.5 pounds (the AC adapter adds another 0.6 pound). The Mini 1000 Mi is powered by 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of 533MHz DDR2 RAM. The graphics are handled by Intel GMA 950 graphics card which is integrated on Mobile Intel 945GSE chipset. As mentioned earlier, the netbook runs on HP Mobile Internet software based Ubuntu Linux operating system and provides storage of 60GB on its hard drive which spins at 4,200rpm.
The new Mini 1000 uses the same design of its older cousin but the most distinguished feature of the netbook, is the custom interface and included software. The new Mini uses a series of panels to arrange the photos, Web, or e-mail. The screen features three panels at once. As the new operating system is Linux based, you will find all the usual applications such as Open Office, Firefox, Thunderbird, Skype, Pidgin, and a few games.
The netbook boasts of 10.2-inch wide-screen LCD display which has native resolution of 1024×600 pixels. The netbook features all the necessary ports and connectors which include VGA connector, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jack, 2 USB 2.0, SD card reader, Ethernet, and 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth.
