The most distinguished features of the HP Pavilion dv2 is its AMD Athlon Neo CPU as it is the first laptop which is powered by that processor. AMD claims that Neo platform is perfect for ultrathin notebooks and AMD is working in the direction of creating whole new category pf laptops such as the HP dv2. AMD’s vision is that the Netbooks should sport 7 to 11-inch displays and should be priced under $500. However, the most of the ultraportable laptops feature 11 to 13-inch displays and priced above $1,499.
The 1.6GHz AMD Neo boasts of handling lots of tasks faster than the Intel Atom does. Moreover, the CPU comes with integrated ATI Radeon graphics and Windows Vista is the only operating option. The laptop is priced at $749, which is much higher than the $549 12-inch Samsung NC20, which is equipped with new Nano processor. At this price range, you get plenty of standard laptops. These include $749 HP Pavilion dv4-1275mx, which sports a 14-inch screen along with dual-core Turion X2 CPU. Another option is the $799 Sony Vaio CS215J/W, sports a 14-inch display along with 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 CPU. Both the laptops definitely outperform the HP dv2.
Measuring 11.5 inches wide, 9.6 inches deep, 0.9-1.3 inches high, the Dv2 weighs 3.8 pounds (the AC adapter adds another 0.8 pound). The HP Pavilion Dv2 is powered by 1.6GHz AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 and comes equipped with 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM. The graphics are handled by ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410. The laptop comes with ATI RS690 chipset, 320GB 5,400rpm hard drive and Windows Vista Premium operating system.
The HP Pavilion dv2 is one of the thinnest inexpensive 12-inch laptops in the market. It is thinner than Dell Mini 12 and the Samsung NC20 but it is slightly thicker than the Lenovo IdeaPad U110, which is a high-end ultraportable laptop.
The Dv2 sports a 12.1-inch wide-screen LED display, which has native resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The resolution offered by Dv2 is found on almost all the 12 to 15-inch screen. The display is suited better for watching 720p videos and the Web pages and documents look better than what you see on the 1024×600 resolution.
The laptop houses all the necessary ports and connectors which include VGA-out, HDMI, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, 3 USB 2.0, SD card reader, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and external DVD burner.
