The $980 HP Pavilion dv3z is a 13-inch lightweight notebook, which gives you nice combination of compinenst and features, and still manages to keep the price in three digits.
The HP Pavilion dv3z is designed with shiny bronze lid, while the interior of the notebook borrows some features from its Pavilion siblings. The darker exterior of the notebook is in with good contrast with the embedded patterns of bronze provided in the glossy palm rests. Though the design of the dv3z is not as impressive as that of Apple’s 13-inch MacBook but it weighs just 0.1 pounds more than the MacBook 13-inch (4.5 pounds) and still manages to accommodate an 83-Wh extended battery. The 13-inch Lenovo U330 weighs just 4.2-pound but it has smaller (57-Wh) battery. Though the U330 and the MacBook 13-inch are slimmer and provide better design features than the dv3z but they will cost you more money than dv3z. There are other 13-inch notebooks like the Sony VAIO VGN-Z590 and the Lenovo ThinkPad X301 which are much lighter the dv3z are but they will be very heavy on your pockets.
The dv3z has pretty impressive 13-inch LED widescreen display but its shiny finish is prone to glare. However, it is bright enough to display excellent quality of DVD movies, high-resolution photos, and HD video. The notebook also manages to squeeze in a full-size keyboard. The excellent keyboard will give you the same typing experience that you will get on the MacBook 13-inch and the Lenovo U330.
The HP provides you with option to choose from various configurations which is a quite rewarding experience. You can either opt for slot loading dual-layer DVD burner that you will find on the MacBook, or you can go for tray-ejecting that you will fid on Lenovo U330. You can also choose from six hard drives: 320GB, 250GB drive ($50 less) or increase the storage capacity to 500GB which will cost you additional $150. By paying additional $25, you can also get a backlit keyboard, which is invaluable in low-light situations.
The HP pavilion dv3z comes with all the necessary ports and connectors such as a webcam, fingerprint reader, three USB ports, an eSATA drive, an HDMI-out, and a 5-in-1 multimedia card reader.
