The $749 HP Pavilion Special Edition boasts of “special edition” lid design and huge 12-cell battery but the HP disappoints with its choice of slow AMD processor. So, the $749 HP Pavilion dv4-1275mx Special Edition is not as good deal as it looks. May be, it is better to go for Pavilion dv5-1235dx which offers bigger 15-inch display and a faster Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. Moreover, it is less expensive than the Special Edition.
Measuring 13.2 inches wide by 9.2 inches deep by 1.6 inches high, the dv4 weighs 6.2 pounds (the AC adapter adds another 0.9 pound). The dv4-1275mx is powered by 2.1GHz AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core ZM-80 processor and is equipped with 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM. The graphics are handled by 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics card which integrated on AMD RS780M chipset. The laptop comes with preinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (64-bit) operating system and provides 400GB storage on its 5,400rpm hard drive.
If you don’t look at the price and components, you will definitely like this beautiful looking laptop. The special edition is designed with midnight blue lid, featuring crashing-wave-inspired imprint. This makes the laptop to look appealing as well as and sophisticated. Though the laptop has small footprint by its mammoth 12-cell extended life battery raises the back of the laptop significantly.
The keyboard features softer keys and looks pretty comfortable for typing. But the touchpad might disappoint you as it is bit short and wide. The laptop features a row of backlit touch-sensitive media controls. These controls include buttons for launching the HP MediaSmart applications which allows you to access music, video, Internet TV, photos, and the CD/DVD player. The laptop also comes with a small IR remote control, which can be used to control the things from afar.
The laptop sports a 14.1-inch wide-screen LCD which has native resolution of 1280×800-pixels. This resolution is standard for 14- and 15-inch screens. The display will definitely appeal you as it is very bright and movies look good on it along with readable text and icons. You will find a serviceable Webcam and microphone just above the screen.
The laptop features solid assortment of ports and connectors which include VGA-out, HDMI port, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, 2 USB 2.0, eSATA/USB combo, multiformat card reader, ExpressCard/54, HP expansion port 3, modem, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and DVD burner.
