HP-Pavilion-Elite-e9120yThere are not many computers in the current market that boast of a Blu-ray drive in the CPU, an AMD quad-core chip in the motherboard, and a state of the art graphics card in the main frame. The latest HP Pavilion Elite e9120y, carrying a price tag of $830, boasts of being such a device. Many of you might think that this price tag is too expensive a tag for a mainstream computer, but be sure that this computer will live up to your expectations with its cutting edge performance. But do not assume that this Blu-ray capable desktop can replace your TV.

HP has been in the news for revamping the design of most of its desktops lines. But this Elite line of computers does not figure in the list of revamped devices. The Elite e9120y features an all black glossy design on its chassis. The body features an easy-to-access media card reader and multiple drive bays.

As far as specifications are concerned, the computer features a 2.6GHz AMD Phenom II X4 910 processor that is powered by 8GB 1,066MHz DDR3 SDRAM. The graphics on the computer are cutting edge as they are powered by a 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card. The computer boasts of a dual layer DVD burner as well as a Blu-ray drive. There is plenty of storage space for you on the hard drive, thanks to the 1TB 7,200 rpm hard drive. The HP Pavilion Elite e9120y computer is shipped with the 64 bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 operating system.

The fact that this computer can play Blu-ray movies does not mean that you can use it as your personal digital theater PC in a big room. This computer also lacks an HDMI video output and eSATA port. It includes 7.1 analog audio outputs and standard digital audio outputs. You will find a FireWire 400 port on this computer. It features a PCI Express graphics card slot, five USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet connectivity, and 802.11 b/g/n/ wireless networking. With all these features, this HP Pavilion Elite e9120y desktop qualifies as an excellent mainstream desktop computer.

Actually there is an HDMI port on this model, it is on the video card between the DVI and D-sub ports. So thus this computer is more than capable of being a ‘digital theater’ PC. I might also note that the 802.11 b/g/n networking card is actually dual-band, if you have an 802.11n router your wireless connection would be MUCH faster than wired. Overall a great PC, and if you look at the per-part cost of the machine you actually save about $400 compared to building it from scratch. The only downside to this computer that I have seen so far is the card reader has a curved faceplate, so the two USB 2.0 ports on it are sometimes hard to get the device plugged into it. There is also some room for expansion if you want to add a sound card or another harddrive.
