HP’s latest Scanjet N6310 is a versatile, speedy and performance oriented scanner with a brain of its own. The scanner measures 502 × 415 × 162mm. It weighs a hefty 6.7kg. The scanner is perfectly styled in black and off-white colors. It is powered by an automatic document feeder that has a capacity of 50 sheets. HP has made sure that the scanner is able to work with bound or stapled documents, business cards, photos, and big size documents.

The scanner connects to the PC via traditional means. A standard USB 2.0 cable forms the connection device between the system and the scanner. The scanner offers a maximum resolution of 2400 × 2400dpi. The scanner has a built-in Transparent Materials Adapter under the cover. This adapter can accommodate two 35mm slides or three 35mm negative frames. The scanner is pretty simple to use in terms of controls. It houses buttons for scanning, copying, and cancelling tasks. Loaded with an alarm LED, the device also houses an LCD that guides the user to all the mentioned buttons and tasks. The device is loaded with the HP Scanning software. With the help of this software, the user can store commands according to the need, edit photos using crop, resize and rotate options. The user can also choose colour-drop-out that improves the OCR accuracy.

The device takes a mere 6 seconds to start up and offers a maximum speed is 15ppm for documents. It also offers a speed of 6 images per minute in the case of A4 size colour photos. The resultant photos are crisp, vibrant, detailed, and accurate. For Mac users, HP provides a separate installation disk which includes Readiris Pro OCR software and Presto Page Manager. At the same time, PC users get Readiris Pro plus PaperPort and Presto! BizCard, as bonus software, along with the device. The HP’s latest Scanjet N6310 is available in the market at a price of £374. All in all, it is a versatile, high quality and economical scanner that is worth its money and is an extremely good business scanning tool.
