HTC Dream T-Mobile G1 – First Android-based mobile handset

When Google’s Android was being launched, the entire web was buzzing with the rumor of HTC Dream. Simultaneously people were expected to react to it by saying: “I have to have it!”, “That’s it?” and sexy. Regrettably, it was just “That’s it?” when the phone was officially surfaced on September 23. The “wow” factor was fully missing somewhere.

May be the latest HTC Dream, now known as the T-Mobile G1, lacks something that did not appeal to the audience. Though Dream kindled as much hype and anticipation as the Apple iPhone, not just because it is the first smartphone that can be sprinted on Google’s mobile platform but also due to the potential to surpass Apple’s darling.

HTC T-Mobile G1 without a doubt provides some functionality the original iPhone and the current iPhone 3G do not, such as multimedia messaging, copy-and-paste capabilities, Google Street View and a better camera. However, G1 is incorporated with some serious design vulnerabilities, like it doesn’t back up Microsoft Exchange, video recording, or stereo Bluetooth.

HTC T-Mobile G1, tall by 2.1 inches, measured 4.6 inches, weighing 5.6 ounces, and wide by 0.6 inch deep, is undeniably not the sleekest device. So, rather than calling G1 sexy, the words “weird” and “interesting” and “weird” are best-suited for it, because the bottom section of the phone juts out at a slight angle. T-Mobile G1 is perfect for gadget hounds and early adopters who are keen on tinkering around and modding their devices.

Now let’s have a look at its glaring features:

(1) Screen: The G1 sports a 3.17? 65K color touchscreen that runs in HVGA (480×320) resolution.
(2) Dimensions: 4.60 x 2.16 x 0.62; Weight: 5.6 ounces. And available in white, black and brown.
(3) Battery Life: You can talk for 5 hours, or keep the phone in standby for 130 hours.
(4) Camera: 3.1MP, or right around 35mm 4×6 print quality.
(5) Frequency Fun: GSM/GPRS/EDGE/Wi-Fi and UMTS/HSDPA
850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100Mhz
(6) Storage: 1GB MicroSD card preinstalled. Supports 8GB MicroSD.
(7) GPS: Of course, what would Google Maps be without it?
(8) Google Maps
(9) YouTube: Yup, it’s on there.

HTC T-Mobile G1 is to be shipped in the marked on October 22nd for $179 (That’s with a two year contract.)
