HTC Radar Windows Smartphone Review

HTC  Radar is the latest windows Phone smart phone in HTC’s quiver. It is the smaller brother of the huge HTC Titan but is still substantially large enough to fulfil all your needs.

Design And Display

HTC Radar is certainly not the lightest slimmest phone you will ever come across but it still has a distinct feel. It is crafted from a single piece of aluminium and settles in nicely in the hand. It is quite similar to the HTC flyer in body though a bit chunkier and has smooth curved edges. 2 colours that have already been revealed are black and white. The smart phone is 10.9 mm thick and weighs around 137 grams.

The display is a 3.7 inch S-LCD with a resolution count of 480 by 800 pixels. This is by no means a small screen but even it doesn’t match up to the monster of HTC Titan. Still the display is good with vibrant colours and sharp images. The smart phone also has a gorilla glass covering like most of the high end smart phones. Some other small useful features are accelerometer sensor, proximity sensor, and gyroscope sensor with multi touch input support.

Specs And Performance

The Radar is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor which may be substantially less than the Titan’s chip but there is no let up in performance. There is also 512 MB RAM plus 8 GB storage space. It supports both 2G and 3G and has a micro USB 2.0 port along with Bluetooth v2.1 and Wi-Fi. The major force behind this smart phone is the latest Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango which is the OS.

Multi tasking is the most brilliant feature of this phone as you can keep all your applications running and switch from one to another with simple swipes. There are also many other small interesting additions which make it a very good software. And couple it with the ever reliable HTC’s own Sense and we have a very good performance to vouch for. You wouldn’t notice the difference between Radar and Titan as far as performance is considered, both are flawless. You may miss the android or the Apple’s apps store though.

Camera

The HTC Radar has a 5 megapixel with auto focus and LED flash and 2560 by 1920 pixel resolution. The lens is an f/2.2 aperture for low light situations. The phone also has a front facing VGA camera for making video calls.

Battery Life

The Radar has a lithium ion 1520 mAh battery which gives a stand by time of around 340 hours and talk time of around 6 hours.

Verdict

Well, the Radar is a classy piece of metal and brings with it the goodies of Windows phone mango. It remains to be seen how well Windows would be able to handle competition from android and Apple who have a much larger applications base.

Windows has a lot of catching up to do in that department. There is nothing too flashy or striking about the Radar but it does its job well and hopefully wouldn’t burn a hole in your pocket either. It is expected to hit the markets by next month.

HTC Radar Windows Smartphone Price

The price has not been revealed yet but it is expected to around Euros 400
