HTC unveils Android based Droid Eris

Priced at $99 with service from Verizon Wireless, the HTC Droid Eris is the second Droid phone, which runs on Google Android OS. The Droid Eris looks similar to HTC Hero and offers the similar build quality. At 4.45x2.19x0.51 inches in size and 4.23 ounces in weight, the handset easily slips into pocket as well as feels great while in use. The HTC Droid is equipped with proximity sensor, which turns off the screen during a call to avoid accidental misdials due to the touch of your cheek.
The Droid’s large 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen does complete justice to its capabilities. The attractive display boasts of 320x480-pixel resolution, which makes the graphics, pictures and text look brilliant and attractive. The handset also has internal accelerometer, which changes the display from to landscape mode from portrait mode when the handset is rotated. However, the accelerometer is limited to e-mail, Web browser and photos.
As the reviews, the HTC Droid only offers virtual keyboard and navigation array also consists of touch sensitive buttons rather than physical buttons. The navigation controls include Home, Menu, Back, and Zoom buttons. The only physical controls include trackball navigator, Talk and End/power keys. Other physical features include a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, volume rocker, Mini-USB port/power connector, and a camera.
The Droid Eris is equipped with all the features that you will find on any other Android phones. The main features include voice recorder, speakerphone, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, voice dialing, alarm clock, Verizon visual voice mail, PC syncing, calculator, calendar, and USB mass storage. The built-in music player supports MP3, AAC, AMR-NB, WAV, MIDI, and Windows Media Audio 9 format, and allows you to create and edit playlists. Moreover, you can fully access all the Google applications such as Calendar, Maps, YouTube, Gtalk, and Google search with voice support. There are plenty of e-mail features such as Gmail syncing, POP3 e-mail accounts etc.
The Droid Eris supports a 5-megapixel camera that can also record videos and geotag the pictures. The captured images can be shared via multimedia messaging, Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, or Picasa e-mail. You can also share videos through e-mail, multimedia messaging or upload to YouTube directly from the handset.
