Since the launch of the iPods, the iPod docks have been very prevalent but none so far has surpassed the creativity of the iP1 released by iHome. An astounding audio enhancement technology coupled with amazing looks and feel the iP1 is simply a gem of a dock. The design is very futuristic; it is one of the most compact iPod docks available in the market today. The 40 Watt woofers are removable and adjustable and a 10W speaker is on the upper corner of the dock.
The iP1 measures at 6.9 inches high and 16.3 inches wide which is quiet easy to carry around and finding a place to position it is very easy. Jam packed with technology the iP1 compromises on its weight; at 9 pounds this iPod dock is insanely heavy. The weight has its advantages though, it is sturdy and iHome promises a robust build quality and as for the sound, it is highly effective.
As the features, the iP1 incorporates a very easy to use interface with four simple buttons namely Power, two volume buttons and the B button. The DPS audio enhancement ensures crystal clear sound quality and can be activated by the B button. A knob embedded at the rear of the dock is used to adjust the usage of different iPod models. The iP1 is also compatible with the iPhone and the entire interface can be controlled with a fairly thin remote control.
Compared to the other iHome docks and docks from Altec-Lansing and JVC the iP1 is definitely more consistent and better to look at. When it comes to performance the iP1 eradicates the competition. The DPS system has the ability to play high and low frequency sounds and ensures to maintain the quality of music files even after complex format conversions. It is without doubt the best sounding iPod dock available today.
iHome has also integrated a video output component but they have not included the cables, which is frustrating. Through this the iP1 can be connected to a HDTV and with the iPod plugged in, average quality videos can be watched without much hassle. However all these exceptional qualities come for a $300 price tag, but if you are looking for the best iPod dock than the iP1 is defiantly ‘The One’.
