Priced at $130, the iLuv Double Play iMM173 is one of the few iPod docks which is compatible with Apple iPhone. As evident from its name, the Double Play sports two universal iPod docks which can charge more than more than one iPod or iPhone.
If you leave the twin universal iPod docks aside, the rest of the features offered by the iLuv Double Play are similar to the one found on other standard iPod docks. The dock has typical dimensions of 11×3.5×6.5 inches. The top edge of the dock features controls for seeting the clock and alarm, for adjusting volume, and managing radio presets, and a large, backlit Snooze button located in the front and center. The back panel of the device houses an auxiliary audio input, headphone output, an attached FM radio antenna, power adapter input, and a Daylight Savings Time switch. A large, magnetized pad on the back panel of the device allows you to keep the remote that comes with the device.
The most notable feature of the device is its compatibility with Apple’s iPhone and the dual-dock. The other attractive features include the radio and alarm, which play a big role in giving the system a solid foundation. Though the device lacks the AM radio, it comes with eight radio presets and its auto scanning feature allows you to easily find the frequencies and store those FM stations.
The iLuv Double Play boasts of two independent alarms, which can be used to trigger radio, buzzer, aux input, or one of the two docked iPods. But you cannot set the alarms as “weekday” or “weekend” as offered by some of the competitors. But the iLuv compensates it with features such as waking you with a slow rise in volume and setting to buzzer mode when there is no iPod in the dock. The device is also provided with a compartment for two AAA batteries, which is located on the bottom of the device.
The device boasts of a 4-inch display which features multiple dim settings. In all there are 10 LCD dimmer settings. The device comes with a fully features remote control which can manage each and every feature of the device from alarm to radio to iPod playback. The remote features 15 button controls for controlling all features. But the remote has limited range and won’t work beyond 15 feet.
