The Insignia NS-LCD52HD-09, priced at $1400, is a decent and economic 52-inch HDTV. Do not expect exceptional picture and sound quality from this HDTV. Having said that, do not expect to be disappointed either. The NS-LCD52HD-09 gives you a mid-level picture and sound quality at a very low price. What do you expect from a 52-inch HDTV in terms of set up? You feel that the set up of such devices is always easy. But in the case of the NS-LCD52HD-09, you will find that the set up proves to be kind of difficult and takes quite a few adjustments to be made. The moment you turn on this TV for the first time, you will be startled to see no first-time setup menu. The TV leaves everything up to you. Figure out the set up yourself in order to get going with this device. The main menu of the TV fills the middle of the screen and is difficult to read and comprehend. It does not offer you on-screen explanations regarding many of its options.
As mentioned before, the NS-LCD52HD-09 offers mid-level image and sound quality. You will notice that the faces of images in close-ups lack textures and do not resemble natural shades of real human skin. At normal focus, images and scenery appear just fine. Be prepared to bear pixilation in wide shots and fast moving long shots. AS the sound is mid-level, the moment you turn it to the maximum, it distorts quite a bit. Loud music sounds muddy and it is better if you use a separate sound system with this TV. The TV features a headphone jack for you to plug your headphones in the device.
The NS-LCD52HD-09 features an excellently designed remote control. The Volume and Channel buttons on the remote are very easily accessible and are soft to touch. The remote does not feature backlighting but is programmable. If you are a user with a strict budget and you want a TV that is bigger than 50 inches, then the Insignia NS-LCD52HD-09 can prove to be a decent option for you.
