iPhone and iPod Touch new requirement for Missouri Journalism students

By on May 14, 2009

ipod-touchIn the world of technology, I had never thought of a day that would make keeping iPhone and iPod Touch mandatory for the students. Well, if you are knocked for six by the above-written sentences, then go on reading it as the students of the Missouri University School of Journalism have also shockingly got a new entrant under their list of requirements.

MacWorld is reported to have said that the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch has now been listed as mandatory for these journalism students. While the university, on the other hand, has clarified that the students would not have to face imposition of any fine and not even they would be compelled to buy the device.

According to the grapevine, the decision by the university was chiefly aimed at assisting their students to encompass the price of their hi-tech gadgets in the federally subsidized loans. These loans can be paid after graduation.

The university says the products will help the students record and review lectures. Even after taking into account the bonafide intents of the university, the fact that is even now not clear is like why only the Apple’s products have been listed on the list. Why not other products have been included, which are capable of doing the same work and that is with meager amount? There are many such questions, which still remain unanswered.

This has also caused to launch a group protest on Facebook. Though the university claims that it’s not important to buy the devices, the explanation again takes us back to where we had set out- why has the device in fact been listed on the ‘required’ list of the college.

Is the move right or wrong, please let me know?
