Mainstream hard drive manufacturer LaCie recently extended its Quadra series of external RAID hard drives. Known for extreme performance, LaCie Quadra drives have a lot to offer for very reasonable price. LaCie was seen showcasing some exciting new products at CES 2010 but surprisingly, they had kept these new hard drives under wraps at the show. Perhaps LaCie had planned to wait for a little longer before unleashing the new Quadra range of external hard drives.
LaCie has provided excellent quality hard drives before Quadra and consumers can expect similar quality with these newer models as well. Quiet market would also benefit Quadra hard drives as there is hardly any new competition that LaCie’s newest creation may have to face. But, there are many established products already in the market from giants like Western Digital and Transcend that will give Quadra a hard time in external hard drive department. But, after considering all features of Quadra, we can safely say that it will surely make it through to the top level.
Quadra external hard drives are aimed at enterprise class users. With incredible looks and great performance, LaCie is not really interested in attracting household users to this newer version of hard drives. With extreme security measures like 128-bit AES compliant hardware encryption, this is one of the safest external hard drives ever designed by LaCie for enterprise usage. Sure there are some advanced protection systems like 256-bit encryption available for use with enterprise editions of some hard drives, but their cost is almost double of what Quadra costs.
At just $299, Quadra is one of the cheapest external hard drives that market has to offer in its class. Not many hard drives in its price range can even come close to Quadra when feature set is considered. Consisting of hardware RAID-enabled SATA drives, Quadra promises extreme performance. Hot-swappable disks import easy and portable access to stored data. 7200rpm hard drive units are faster than what enterprise users will ever require. With advanced connectivity features such as FireWire 400/800 and eSATA along with regular USB 2.0, Quadra is one of the most versatile hard drives available in the market. LaCie Quadra is definitely recommended for business users and they should hurry as we expect it to be a bit hit.
