Priced at $1,249 Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 4185 is the higher-end models of the two fixed-configuration IdeaPad Y650 laptops. Both the models are powered by 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 processor and come with 4GB of 1,066MHz DDR3 RAM.
Measuring 15.4 inches wide, 10.2 inches deep, and 1 inch high, the Y650 boasts of being the thinnest and lightest 16-inch laptop. The laptop weighs just 5.62 pounds. The laptop comes with 320GB 5,400rpm hard drive and preinstalled Windows Vista Premium operating system. The graphics are handled by 256MB Nvidia GeForce G 105M graphics card and laptop is equipped with Mobile Intel PM45 Express chipset.
Unlike the earlier laptops from Lenovo, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y-series laptops boast of very attractive design, which is aimed at younger media oriented users. The laptop is designed in matte black casing along with rubberized hex pattern, while the edges are provided with copper stripes. The keyboard is very shiny and is designed white. The keyboard is surrounded by volume controls, stereo JBL speakers, OneKey data backup shortcut button, and touch sensitive controls Dolby audio options and adjusting the screen brightness. The touch pad also looks impressive like the keyboard due to its large size and multi-touch capabilities.
As the features, the Y650 boasts of 16-inch wide-screen LCD, which has native resolution of 1,366×768 pixels. Though the screen looks bright and impressive but it is quite disappointing that the screen resolution is on the lower side. So, the HD videos will not look at their best on this display.
The laptop is equipped with all the necessary inputs and outputs, which include VGA-out, HDMI-out port, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, SPDIF, two USB 2.0, SD card reader, one eSATA port, ExpressCard/34, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, and DVD burner.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 provides nearly two and half hours of battery backup on video playback, which is slightly less, considering the fact that it is a six cell battery. However, the Y650 runs for longer time than its rival the Dell Studio XPS 16.
