Lexmark’s C543DN color laser printer boasts of a completely new engine. This printer is available at an unbelievably low price of $399. The printer comes as a standard duplexer and is best suited for small office printing and printing simple everyday documents. But if your needs are excellent graphics, complex graphics, and faster printing, then this device might not be the one for you. The lazer printer is very easy to set up, thanks to a setup guide that sports instructions in 24 languages. The control panel of this printer is very simplistic in design. It houses two-line monochrome LCD and self-explanatory navigation buttons. The printer features a new engine. This engine features keyed toner supplies that rest behind a door on the side of the printer. This offers you easy access as compared to the access by opening up the printer. The compartment door features instruction related to the cartridge release levers. However, replacing the toner reservoir and the print heads might turn out to be a little tricky for most of you.
The C543DN is pretty much a mixed bag when it comes to speed and print quality. It offers a text printing speed of a decent 19.8 pages per minute. As far as speed on the color graphics is concerned, it stands at a pretty disappointing 2.8 pages per minute. The text output is no doubt black and pretty crisp. Color graphics and photos printed by this device look pretty natural on plain paper. However, they look washed-out, grainy, and oddly tinged on Lexmark’s own glossy laser paper.
The printer’s configuration offers standard automatic duplexing as a bonus. The input tray is the basic 250-sheet tray that has a manual-feed slot. The output area can hold up to 100 sheets. The device is provided with high-yield 2500-page black (K) cartridge, and 2000-page cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y) cartridges. Replacement of these cartridges costs $70 for black and $83 for each color bringing the costs to 2.8 cents per plain text page and 15 cents per color page. Overall, the Lexmark C543DN serves as a decent, low-cost printer for small offices that have light graphics needs.
