lexmark-x204n What do you expect from an all-in-one printer? Do you expect it to look good or do you expect it to perform well? It is a fact that most monochromic all-in-ones (AIOs) are used in small offices and around work desks because these places have huge printing needs and these printers do an excellent job of good printing. What if you get such a printer that has excellent performance but also has a series of extra features?

The Lexmark X204n, priced at $299, is one such device. Its output quality is excellent and it can scan, print, and fax, both over a network and as a standalone copier and a fax machine. The machine can also act as a stand alone e-mail device that can scan and send an e-mail even without a PC. It can do the same through your computer as well.

These days, a few AIOs offer these mailing features but none of the machines offer both the above said features of sending e-mails with or without a PC. In case you need a cover note at your keyboard, use the machine to send mail via your PC. In case you do not need the cover note, send mail directly without your PC by using this device. The printer features an automatic document feeder (ADF) that has a capacity of 30 pages. The ADF in addition to handling legal-size pages also handles multi-page documents to scan, fax or email them.

Lexmark X204n is a compact printer measuring a mere 15.1 inches by 15.8 inches by 14.0 inches. The printer weighs about 32 pounds making it harder for you to move it around quickly and frequently. As far as setting up the printer is concerned, it is an extremely easy task. Just put paper in the device and plug in the power chord and you are good to go. On a network, use the printer’s automated installation routine disc and the printer will be in its full glory. The device comes with Windows Vista, Windows 2000 and XP drivers and also for Mac OS X v10.2 through 10.5. The drivers for Linux, IBM AIX 5.2, and other versions of windows can be downloaded from the Lexmark’s Web site.
