maingearephex Priced at $8798, the Maingear Ephex is one of the most expensive desktop systems which provide incredible performance, courtesy Intel Core i7 965 CPU and 12GB of RAM. Though the desktop system is pretty expensive but it lacks features like monitor, keyboard, mouse, Wi-Fi adapter or speakers. You can also save $1,100 if you don’t go for transparent side panel and special paint job.

Priced at $8028, the iconic Falcon Northwest Mach V is the closest rival of Ephex. The manufacturer has concentrated a lot on design and internal wiring of the system. The Ephex’s design and internal wiring is immaculate. Only issue with the system is the obstruction of card expansion slots due to liquid cooling plates. The drive bays on the system face outwards which makes it quite easy to add the hard drives.

The Ephex is powered by overclocked 3.925GHz Intel Core i7-965 Extreme Edition CPU which is faster than Falcon’s overclocked 3.79GHz Intel Core i7-965 Extreme Edition CPU. Like Falcon Mach V, the Ephex is equipped with 12GB 1,600MHz DDR3 SDRAM. The graphics are handled by three 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 graphics card which is integrated in Intel X58 chipset. The Ephex is equipped with 80GB Intel X-25M solid state hard drive and two 1TB 7,200 rpm Western Digital hard drives. Like Mach V, the Ephex offers 20x dual-layer DVD burner with LightScribe and 4 x dual-layer Blu-ray burners. The system comes with pre-installed with Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) which is same as Falcon Mach V.

The Ephex also offers Creative SupremeFX X-Fi sound card for multimedia use. Moreover, the Ephex provides 7.1 sound output, analog line-in, and optical as well as coaxial S/PDIF inputs. But it lacks HDMI-output, so you will need an adapter to connect the system to HDTV. It also has room for adding a media card reader as well as a DVD drive.

The Maingear provides 14-month warranty which covers parts and labor, and complements the warranty with toll-free phone support from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, all EST.
