With the start of the New Year 2009, Linux has launched another feature, its Mandriva Linux 2009. This new Mandriva Linux 2009 is aimed more at desktop users than at server use. The software can easily handle almost all desktop hardware, all notebooks and all the latest “netbooks”. This new product from Linux is extremely easy to install and is an excellent platform for the people who are new to the open source platform. As its reviews, the Mandriva Linux 2009 can easily integrate into mixed Windows/Linux networks. Linux has made sure that the Mandriva Linux kernel naturally gets updated to 2.6.27 while the default KDE desktop gets upgraded from KDE 3 to 4. The user gets the latest KDE 4.1.2 implementation. This implementation includes numerous performance and interface enhancements. The implementation also includes new applications like Dolphin file manager, Dragon media player, and Okular document viewer.
In order to run the KDE 4, there is no need for any special video hardware. Linux has designed a Gnome (2.24) implementation and LXDE which is a lightweight desktop that has been designed specifically for use on low-powered netbook PCs. For the desktops, Mozilla Firefox 3 has been made the default browser and it comes loaded with the OpenOffice.org office suite. The hard disk install of the software goes very smoothly with step by step instructions for the users. The software deletes any unwanted libraries and files previously left behind during the install. Overall, the feel of the Mandriva Linux 2009 is very smooth and simple.
Linux also provides additional features with the 2009 product. Linux offers a resource-light e-Book reader and Google Gadgets for Linux. These are available as standard in the free-to-download Linux One edition. Linux provides a PowerPack edition at a price of €49. Otherwise, the feature is free for all. The most important change in Mandriva Linux 2009 is a new KDE 4 desktop. This new release from linux will surely be a boon for all the crazy Linux lovers.
