Micron launches the fastest Solid State Drives at affordable price – Micron RealSSD C200 and P200 Review

The world’s one of the most renowned advance semiconductor solutions, now has now stepped into the world of Solid State Drives. Micron Technology announces to launch its new affordable 256GB Solid State Drives (SSDs), the Micron RealSSD C200 and P200 earlier next year. The P200 model is an enterprise class Real SSD and the C200 model belongs to Client focused RealSSD. As claimed by Micron, these new SSDs can read data at 250MBps, unlike Samsung that can read data at 220MBps. But one thing Samsung SSD is ahead of Micron, it has faster writing speed than that of Micron. The writing speed of Samsung being 200MBps and that of Micron is 100MBps. The Micron RealSSD C200 uses Multi-Level Cell (that is MLC) NAND technology while the RealSSD P200 uses Single-Level Cell (SLC) NAND technology with high performance for the purpose of enterprise computation.

Features of P200:

  • Performance: The P200 line can access transactional data at 10 times faster speed as compared to an enterprise Hard Disk Drive. As compared to an enterprise HDD, which has an average latency of 8 milliseconds, the P200 has a sub-millisecond latency, thus enhancing the performance level.
  • Power: In active mode, the P200 operates at 2.5 watts and in idle mode it operates at under 0.3 watts, which is one-tenth the power of a datacenter hard drive. It can operate at a temperature ranging from zero to +70 degrees Celsius. Its low wattage level and high temperature range, requires almost no cooling and maintains the power consumption at lower levels.
  • Reliability: The Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) rate of P200 is approximately 2 million hours as compared to 300,000 to 500,000 MTBF of an HDD, thus reducing the chances of mechanical breakdown. The P200 is perfect for enterprise applications, which are really critical, and demands reliability.
  • Speed: The P200 ranges from 16GB to 128GB within a 2.5-inch form factor and provides 3GB/s SATA based read and write speed of 250MBps that is sequential – happens to be the fastest in the industry.

Features of C200:

  • Performance: It is designed for use in the notebook applications and utilizes MLC NAND technology and NAND Management Algorithms of highly optimized level. It offers an improved level of boot and application loading times
  • Power: The 2.5-inch form factor offers densities upto 256GB while the 1.8-inch ranges from 32GB to 128GB, thus offering high performance levels and lower power consumptions.
  • Speed: Uses 3GB/s SATA interface and a read speed of upto 250MBps and a write speed of upto 100MBps, thus providing enhanced computing speed.
