Microsoft has announced Robotics Developer Studio 2008
Microsoft is the leading company in the field of software, services and solution. It helps people and businesses around the world to use their full potential. Microsoft has introduced its latest robotics programming platform- Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008(Microsoft RDS). The RDS allows the developers to build asynchronous applications with simple programming model and its simulation tools and visual authoring help in application development. The developers can start using the RDS with the help of tutorials and sample code.
According to Tandy Trower, general manager of the Microsoft Robotics Group, “This latest release is a demonstration of Microsoft’s continued commitment and investment in supporting the emerging new robotics community. We have used the very positive response to enhance what we offer, in hopes that it will continue to provide a common ground and catalyst for the future of personal robotics.”
Impressive Enhancements of Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008:
Increased runtime performance – The overall performance has been improved from 1.5 to three times faster, and the services load faster by two times. RDS ahs enable the developers to define specific message communication between services. This has decreased the utilization of network and optimized the data processing. These improvements in RDS have resulted in faster applications and better use of processor performance.
Improvements to the Visual Programming Language (VPL) tool – With RDS 2008 the developers have more flexibility for compiling their programs. A simple method allows to define and configure distributed application which has been integrated in drag-and-drop tool for visual programming.
Improvements to the Visual Simulation Environment (VSE) tool – The improved VSE allows the programmers to record and play back their simulations, which allows them to easily review their simulations. A new floor-plan editor allows the developer to define the interior structures with more simplification, and new sample simulation environments-apartment, outdoor and urban allows the developers to test their robot applications. The RDS 2008 also supports the import of content from CAD software and Microsoft truespace 3-D modeling software.
Greater development flexibility - This latest version of RDS supports both Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008, which enables large number of developers to access it.
The newest Microsoft RDS 2008 includes three editions which target different types of users- Academic Edition is meant for educational researchers and students, while professional developers can use its Standard Edition, and Express Edition is for casual users and hobbyists.
